Now in its fifteenth year, the West Reading Art on the Avenue family festival is the community’s premiere special event.  This year the event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20th 10AM-7PM.  The day long event will feature artists and crafters from the region exhibiting their wares along the sidewalks of Penn Avenue.  In addition, Penn Avenue business owners participate with sidewalk displays and activities as well as “event specials” inside the shops.  The West Reading Main Street Foundation coordinates and produces the event and schedules entertainment and festival foods and beverages.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art based on reducing conflict by connecting to and redirecting an attacker's energy.  Aikido is also a spiritual practice by encouraging the use of its principles in all aspects of one's interactions, thus reducing conflict and encouraging more harmony in one's life.  Come see Aikido West Reading in action as they will be providing demonstrations of the techniques and principles of Aikido in the 700 block.  Demonstrations will include basic self defense techniques, defending against multiple attackers and the practice of some traditional Japanese weapons.  Several demonstrations will be held throughout the day.  Members of Aikido West Reading will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information.

We will be creating a Peace Mandala on the sidewalk in front of YOGA INLET for the purpose of enjoining our community members in their personal and community commitment of Peace and Harmony. A mandala is a concentric circular design with deep spiritual significance. Our mandala will be made of colored sand. Partipants will take turns adding shapes, designs and their loving personal touches to the mandala until it is finished. Once the sand mandala is completed it will be swept up (symbolizing the transitory nature of the universe) with a beautiful ceremony. Small bags of the prayer infused sand will be given to participants with instructions on how to offer it to the earth accompanied by a personal wish or prayer for inner peace.
